Patronymic last name derived of the name Ruí. Gil Ruiz, probably vallisoletano, passed by Aragon. There he became General Governor. Gil Ruiz during the life and times of Martin “the Human”, (1395), holds the candidacy the infante don Federico de Luna for the succession to the throne. Don Domingo Ruiz de Tagle became Marquis of Sierra-nevada in 1708; don Francisco Ruiz Dávalos, became Marquis of Algorfa in 1762; don Felipe Ruiz de Huidobro y Huidobro, became Marquis of Huidobro in 1872. Doña María del Carmen Soldado Ruiz, became Viscountess of la Torre Mayor in 1884, and don Jacinto María Ruiz Ibarra y Grijalba became Marquis of Grijalba in 1890.
Its Arms: field of gold, two walking sable wolves, bordur of azure, with eight saltires of gold.
