Costa and Acosta are the same family name, as well Cuña and Acuña by example. The lineage according to the Catalog of Nobility Lusitana, comes from a distinguished gentleman who flourished in time of the King Don Manuel, who reigned in Portugal from 1495 to 1521, and among his descendants, besides eminent men famous for their talent and erudition, are also profound political and valiant captains. This lineage is rooted in an enlightened and noble houses, particularly with the Acenedo from Galicia, and with the Silva and Carvajal from Asturias.
Its Arms: Shield quartered; the first in gold and a mountain surmounted by a cane field; the second in gules and a duck swimming; the third in gules, a hill surmounted by a silver castle with door and windows in azure, and at the door an ajar pomegranate; the fourth in azure and five silver stars in saltire.
